  1. Hello Christine
this quote or comment always feels the same when I read it . Tragic really of sadness to come.
” I wished I had died before I loved anyone but her ” A movable Feast

  2. If people bring so much courage to the world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.

    1. Thanks for this one, Bob. I’ve always loved it. So many use “we are stronger in the broken places,” but no one seems to know it is from Hemingway. Thank you for caring about Hemingway and hope all is well with you! Best, Christine

  3. If I had to pick one quotation from Hemingway’s writings, it would be the double dicho from The Old Man and the Sea:

“A man can be destroyed but not defeated”

    1. Yes, I love that line! it is full of meaning and words to live by. I wonder how many times he re-wrote it or refined it. Thanks so much, Timothy. Best to you. Christine
