TODAY IN HISTORY: World’s most famous novelist survives two plane crashes in two days

Acclaimed author Ernest Hemingway and his wife Mary Welsh survived the second of two plane crashes in as many days on January 23, 1954.

The pair were on safari in Uganda when the small plane they were in clipped a telegraph wire and crashed on the banks of the Nile.
